A bit about Amy

I’m approaching 27 years-old. Do you, like I do, follow social media accounts of people who are your age but are WAY more successful? Well, I see all of these women who are my age, or a bit younger or older, announcing these amazing awards like being on a “30 under 30 list”, and I struggle with feeling like I’m not doing enough. I’m not where they are. Am I a failure because of that? I’m being bombarded by messages that constantly tell me that I’m not enough. I’m not making 6-figures like she is. I’m not fit like she is. I’m not taking enough time to look as put together as she does. Am I ENOUGH? As I figure this out for myself, I help show other women that they are, indeed, enough through my photography sessions. We connect over “enough-ness”. I can see the ways other women are strong, successful, and beautiful—when she cannot see it in herself. And, in a wonderful way, I receive the same gift reflected back to me when I work with someone I connect easily with. I am constantly searching for ways to prove to myself that I am enough, and to remember to not compare my journey with someone else’s.

I live in Washington state. I grew up in Seattle, and now live “outside of Seattle” (literally anywhere other than Seattle for people who don’t know WA) in Puyallup with my husband, Jeff, and two kitties (in our first home!). My studio is a 1hr (plus) drive, all the way in Queen Anne by the Space Needle. It’s a great, central location for everyone, but I don’t enjoy driving, so it’s on my 5-year plan to have a studio space down South. Our home was built in the 40s and has a ridiculous amount of wood panelling that we have decided to embrace. It’s ‘kind of’ the farmhouse style that we fell in love with thanks to Fixer Upper! …And we for sure do have a fixer upper on our hands. There are constantly new surprises—most I’m not super happy about like a colony or two of ants under our home or the most recent sewage-drain-block fiasco that caused a $500 bill—but it’s pretty darn amazing to have all this space to make ours! I am so proud that we were able to make this investment together.

I am constantly learning and mastering light… to see how light flatters every corner of a room and every angle of a person’s face with photography and videography. I started my photography journey over 10 years ago doing on-location and outdoor photography only, but in front of my small studio window is now my favorite place to be. All of the “Just Me” project images were created with the natural window light from my studio. Simple. I love rotating a woman within a corner of natural light to see how the light wraps around her body. I also focus on connection. That’s why I love portraits, and that’s what you’ll most likely see me share. Her facial features. Her eyes. Peering into her soul. Sharing her story with and without words. Give me a person, a light source, and a quiet, comfortable environment, and my heart and talent soars.
