Empowerment Boudoir | Client Spotlight

When I do an empowerment boudoir session with a client, I always interview them in case they are interested in being featured in my Client Spotlight blog series. Here’s an excerpt

Tell me more about why you wanted to do an empowerment boudoir session!

If you feel comfortable sharing, I'd love to hear more of your story—your struggles, your triumphs, or body image journey— and why it's important to do experiences like this just for yourself!”

So there's two major parts to my story.

1 - I grew up pretty conservative Christian and raised in the purity culture. I was taught to cover up (to this day, I still always flip my hair in front of my shoulders to cover up any potential cleavage), not wear certain things, and definitely not able to view my body as sexy.

2 - I've also never been a skinny girl. Between what the media shows as beautiful, subtle comments from family or doctors, and never dating until my mid-20s, I associated my body with my worth, value, and beauty so I've never been loving to my body. I've spent so much time picking apart everything I don't like about it instead of loving it.

This experience was so important because it's helping teach me that I can be sexy and wear lingerie and that I look good while wearing it!

“How did the reality of the photo session and the resulting images compare to your expectations?”

First, I was expecting to feel super nervous and awkward during the session since I've never done something like it before. But I felt completely calm and at peace! And excited! And I know this isn't kind to say about myself, but I wasn't expecting to LOVE my photos. I've spent so much time picking apart the things I don't like about my body or covering up but Amy did such a great job encouraging me and capturing incredible photos

“How has the experience affected how you view yourself? What did you get out of it?”

I think my initial reaction was, "damn, I do look good!" It was an incredible confidence booster. I was also so proud of myself that my first response to my photos was "wow" and not picking apart things about myself.
